Abstract: Objective To study the protecting effects of extracts of the Hypericum japonicum Thunb. for the acute liver injury in rats. Methods The extracts of the Hypericum japonicum Thunb. were intraperitoneally given to every SD rat with acute liver injury induced by D-galactoasmine. It was detected that the activities of ALT and AST by using colorimetric method. Results The ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of the Hypericum japonicum Thunb. significantly reduced acute liver injury induced by D-galactoasmine, by means of decreasing ALT and AST in serum. Conclusion The ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of the Hypericum japonicum Thunb. have protecting effects for liver.
