Analysis of the essential oil from two varieties of epimediums by GC-MS

  • Objective To analyze the chemical components of the essential oil from Epimedium pubescens Maxim.and Epimedium koreanum Nakai. by GC-MS. Methods The essential oil was extracted from two epimediums by steam distillation, the chemical components of the essential oi1 were detected by GC-MS, peaks and their corresponding compounds were identified through database index. Results 76 chief components from two varieties of epimediums were identified, 24 components were noted in both. Conclusion There were some differences in composition and content between the two kinds of epimediums. A scientific basis for the further identification and quality control of the two different species of epimediums was offered in this paper.
