Advance in function of the eukaryotic elongation factor eEF1A

  • Eukaryotic elongation factors(eEFs)was a kind of important molecules that assist in elongating the polypeptide chain in the protein biosynthesis of the organisms. It had two subtypes in eukaryotic organism:eEF1 and eEF2. One subtype of eEF1:eEF1A played the main functions in elongating the peptide chain, which carried the aminoacyl-tRNA (aa-tRNA)on the A site of the ribosome,and many studies indicated that eEF1A played another roles range from cell apoptosis,tumorigenesis,signal transduction to the regulation of the cardiovascular system, and these functions were not related to the protein synthesis. All of this demonstrated eEF1A was a multifunction protein,which could be a potential target of the disease prevention and cure. The advance in function of the eukaryotic elongation factor eEF1A in recently years were introduced in this article.
